Trust your gut
If something feels wrong with Jamma, call. It's never silly to ask.

Call the transplant team if Jamma has…

  • Fever over 100.4°F (38°C)
  • Pain or tenderness over the kidney
  • Sudden weight gain (2+ lbs overnight)
  • Less urine, dark urine, or blood in urine
  • Reduced urine output or unusual pain
  • New bleeding from the wound
  • Changes in wound drainage color or smell
  • Swelling in feet, ankles, or hands
  • New cough, sore throat, or cold symptoms
  • Diarrhea or vomiting more than once
  • Any new rash or open sore

Call 911 immediately for…

  • Chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Confusion or difficulty waking
  • Heavy bleeding or fainting
  • Signs of stroke: facial droop, weakness on one side, slurred speech
CMV — keep an eye on labs
CMV (cytomegalovirus) is a known complication in 4–14% of transplant patients. Routine labs monitor for it. Report any fever, reduced urine output, or unusual pain to the transplant team immediately.

Avoiding infection

  • Wash hands often — especially before meals and meds.
  • Avoid crowded indoor spaces during cold/flu season.
  • Wear a mask in clinics and on flights.
  • Stay current on flu and COVID vaccines (no live vaccines).
  • Keep cuts clean and covered.
